Business Storytelling 2024

The Power of Telling Your Business Story.

Once upon a time, consumers had to be told your story by you. This meant you had to create persuasive messaging that would subtly or aggressively try and sell everything and anything. Copywriters were hired to sell like crazy rather than softly engage and connect.

Power words, hyper-inflated language and super-exaggerations were the order of the day. Mostly used without the support of a real business story.

Business Storytelling In 2024

Today's marketplace is very different. The reason is the powerhouse computer in ever consumer's pocket. The second reason and more important one is that your biggest buyers (in most cases) Gen Z demand to know the back story of your business. For Gen Z it’s a trade off - you support what we believe (circular economy, earth saving practices, conscience driven approaches and so forth and we - Gen Z - will support you.

A consumer in 2024 can decide to buy something in their mind. In other words they have this idea to buy something and then make that purchase in their mind. Then once they do their research and discover your business story - they will buy or cancel their decision to buy.

Business Storytelling 2024

Telling your business story is the most critical thing you can do in your business from 2024 onward. There’s nothing new in this. Hovis bread and many others were doing the same thing decades earlier. But that was when stories had to be pushed and pushed hard. Now the public do their own deep research into who and what you are as a business.

So in 2024 you have to ask yourself …

How Strong Is My Business Story?

First you need to understand the minds of your buyers. Once you understand that you must feed their thoughts with what they want to hear.

In other words people buy jeans and buy tons of jeans. People also know the process of making jeans involves heavy pollution of rivers with blue dyes. Buy if you are a jeans company that has discovered, created or made a new way of making denim yet removed all of the polluting practice you ned to tell that story. Even better. If you are that Denimn company that has also found a way to reudce pofits and support local community busilding - you need to tell that story.

In other words - Look at what your buyers want to know and want to read in your business storytelling. Just some questions worth asking yourself.

  • Are you current in today’s conversations?

  • Soft skill driven?

  • Deliver a real human touch important in the age of A.I.?

  • Are you truly sustainable?

  • Is your business personal - one-on-one - or does it at least feel like that?

  • How do you use data collected. Is it protected and private (unlike most companies that sell their list forward)?

  • What really is your customer experience and can you write and map it out?

  • Are you diverse and inclusive?

  • Resilient from cyber attacks?

Do you have a story and if you do are you telling, sharing and delivering it in a way your prospects will fall in love with you?

How Great Business Storytelling Can Make You Stand Out

Nearly 40-years in business has taught me this one thing. If you want more from your business - you must have a story. Great business storytelling can make your business stand out. It can postion you at a different level. It can create hordes of adoring buyers. It gives your business a true foundation buyers can relate to.

Have you read the McDonald’s story- The Golden Arches? If not and you want to truly understand storytelling for business you should read that brilliant business book.

I had the privilege of creating and writing a story for a film. That film is called THE CURATOR. Watch it. The story is a story, no one would know apart from the owner. Now almost 12,000 people locally know his business story. A story will make your business stand and create a natural attachment for your buyers.

Business Storytelling in 2024 - Best Reasons To Tell Your Story

  1. Differentiates your brand: In any competitive marketplace, storytelling gives you a free hand to differentiate your business from your competitors. By masterfully crafting unique and compelling narratives that highlight your brand's values, mission, or customer experiences. You can then create a truly distinct identity, brand, company, or individual story that sets you apart. It will help you stand out in the minds of your customers and create a powerful brand image.

  2. Creates deep emotional connections: Storytelling has the power to evoke emotions and create a strong emotional connection with your audience. By telling stories that resonate with their experiences, challenges, or aspirations, you tap into their emotions and foster a deeper bond. These emotional connections enhance customer loyalty and conversation.

  3. Engages and captivates your audience: Great storytelling can quickly capture attention and engage your customers. It holds their interest and keeps them invested in your brand's message. When your storytelling is compelling, relevant, and well-crafted, it becomes a powerful tool for attracting and retaining the attention of your customers. This has never been more crucial in a world filled with endless daily and even by-the-minute distractions.

  4. Simplifies complex information: Storytelling can simplify complex ideas or information on your products or service. Instead of bombarding your audience with technical jargon or intricate details, you can use storytelling to present concepts in a relatable and accessible manner. This makes it easier for your customers to understand and connect with your message.

  5. Makes your message unforgettable: Stories have a lasting impact on customers’ memory. When you incorporate your business messages into a well-crafted story, it becomes more memorable and lasting for your audience. They are more likely to remember and recall your brand, products, or key messages when they are presented within a storytelling context.

  6. Ignites word-of-mouth marketing: Compelling, engaging and interesting stories have the potential to generate word-of-mouth or viral marketing. When customers resonate with your storytelling, they are more likely to share it with others, either through social media, personal conversations, or online reviews. This will lead to increased brand awareness, reach, and customers ultimately buying more.

  7. Positions your brand as authentic: Authenticity is a crucial aspect of your storytelling. When you tell genuine and TRUE stories that reflect your brand's values, experiences, and purpose, you position your brand as truly authentic and trustworthy. This authenticity resonates with customers and helps build trust and credibility.

By leveraging great storytelling techniques, you can make your business stand out by creating a unique and memorable brand identity, connecting emotionally with your audience, simplifying complex information, and fostering positive word-of-mouth. These storytelling elements contribute to a differentiated and impactful brand presence in the marketplace.

Business Storytelling - The Big Shift

For those that know me you will see a lot new new directions here at OrangeBeetle.com

I began OrangeBeetle.com way back in 1998. It feels like a lifetime ago.

Business consulting and advising was how it all began. Then quite quickly the demand for my writing copy services very quickly and accidentally took off. The sales for my clients (estimated) went well over one hundred million. The response rates were mostly higher than most averages. To be frank it was an extremely busy time for me every day writing sales or persuasive copy day in and day out.

Today's world has changed dramatically. The commodity of truth has become hard to afford and harder to find. The world has now become cynical, disbelieving and at times nervous about dealing with anyone.

And that's fine because the whole history of mankind is in constant change.

In line with that is why storytelling in your business is more critical than ever.

Business storytelling In Business Films and Books

That is revealing the real story behind the story of a business and delivering in a high-demand format - film. (example here )

If you are in business in 2024 and beyond you will have felt the change out there for your story - or truth - to be revealed. This means the public - especially Gen Z who are now the biggest buyers - demand to know your story and what your story truly is.

So telling your storytelling about your business is probably the biggest gap in any business - regardless of the business -  right now. And the reason there is a gap is that most businesses are simply repeating the same old story. That might have worked then but it won't work now.

The second reason to reveal your story is you will sell more, increase more and gain more if you tell an open and honest story.

So telling a story is more SELLING than it has ever been.

If you want to become a business that is higher demand, more searched for, wanted, and is the only no.1 option - telling a story that no one knows and that is truly authentic will deliver those results for you.
